TESTING
Though testing is not a central part of our class curriculum (our world needs people that can DO things, not just take tests), our school is still accountable to show student growth and proficiency through standardized tests. The data from these tests helps teachers better understand student needs. Throughout the year, students take the following standardized tests:
MCA - The standardized tests required of all schools by the State of Minnesota. This test measures proficiency in different subjects.
FastBridge - FastBridge is a research-based assessment system used by K-12 schools for universal screening and progress monitoring in reading, math, and social-emotional behavior. Administered three times per year (fall, winter, and spring), it combines computer-adaptive tests and curriculum-based measures to help educators quickly identify student needs and guide instruction.
ACT - An optional test that many post-secondary institutions use as part of considering accepting students. Academic Arts High School does not currently administer the ACT but can help Juniors who are interested find a location to take the ACT.
WIDA - A test assess needs of multilingual students
Capti ReadBasix- Under Minnesota's READ Act, public schools must universally screen all K-3 students three times a yearfor reading skills and dyslexia characteristics. Students in grades 4–12 not reading at grade level are also assessed using approved tools like Capti ReadBasix.

As a reminder, MCA testing is based on student grade:
MCA Science test- 9th Grade ( only if they did not complete in 8th Grade)
MCA Reading test- 10th grade
MCA Math test- 11th grade
